Former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani Passes Away at 95!

Eminent Lawyer and Former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani, 95,  passed away in the early hours of Sunday (August 8) at his official residence in New Delhi.

“He had not been keeping well for a few months and he breathed his last at 7.45 am. His last rites will be performed on Sunday evening at the Lodhi Road crematorium,” Jethmalani’s son Mahesh Jethmalani was quoted as saying by PTI.

Jethmalani who is member of the current Rajya Sabha served as the Union Law Minister and the Minister of Urban Development in Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA Government. As a lawyer, he fought several high-profile cases including LK Advani’s defence in the Hawala scam and fighting for Arvind Kejriwal in a defamation case filed by Arun Jaitley.

Condoling his death, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “India has lost an exceptional lawyer and iconic public figure who made rich contributions both in the Court and Parliament. He was witty, courageous and never shied away from boldly expressing himself on any subject.”

Home Minister Amit Shah who paid his condolences to Jethmalani at his residence wrote, “In him we have not only lost a distinguished lawyer but also a great human who was full of life.”
