Medium-intensity Earthquake Hits Delhi-NCR; Third in Less than a Month
Home > News Shots > India newsAn earthquake of magnitude 3.4 hit Delhi on Sunday, the National Centre for Seismology said. It occured at a depth of five kilometers. No casualty or loss of property has been reported.
The epicentre of the earthquake was near Wazirpur in North-East Delhi.
Earthquakes of magnitude 3.5 and 2.7, respectively, hit the same location last month.
Following the quake, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted out saying he is “praying for everyone’s safety”.
Of the four seismic zones in the country - Zone II, III, IV, V - Delhi falls under ‘Zone IV’. “Of these, Zone V is seismically the most active region, while zone II is the least,” says a release on country’s seismic zones by the Ministry of Earth Science.
