Delhi to go to Polls in Feb, "Do Not Vote Us If You Are NOT Happy With Work," Says Arvind Kejriwal!
Home > News Shots > India newsThe election commission has announced that Delhi will go to polls on February 8 and the counting of votes will be held on February 11. Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said.
The contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), violence in JMI and JNU, air pollution, women safety and statehood demand for Delhi are likely to play deciding factors.
Addressing a press conference after the announcement, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, "BJP controls the Delhi Police, Municipal corporation and DDA whereas our party controls education, electricity, roads, water supply and construction work. People of Delhi will now decide which party has a better job. If you think we have not done any work, do not vote for us."
He said these elections will be fought on the grounds of development and not on CAA. "I worked for the whole of Delhi - not looking at who is our supporter, who is BJP's and Congress'. Delhi elections will not be fought on CAA, It will be fought on roads, electricity, water and development. We only want to work for development, nothing else."
In the last elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 67 out of 70 seats to register a record majority.
Meanwhile, reportedly, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has formed a three-member committee to hold talks with the BJP on seat-sharing for the Delhi assembly elections.
It is still a question if AAP will form an alliance with congress or go solo.
