Delhi Elections: Polling Underway; Kejriwal to Return as CM for Third-Term?
Home > News Shots > India newsDelhi goes to polls today with 1.5 crore people electing representatives for 70-member Delhi assembly from 672 candidates. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people to come out in large numbers and vote. "Urging the people of Delhi, especially my young friends, to vote in record numbers," Modi tweeted.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too urged people to come out of their homes and votes. He made a special request to women. "Please go out and vote. Special appeal to all women - Just as you take up the responsibility of your homes, the responsibility towards the country and Delhi is also on your shoulders. All of you ladies must go and cast your votes and also take the men of your house along. Make sure to discuss it with them that voting is their right," Kejriwal tweeted.
Tight security has been accorded for the voting. While speaking to media, deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “Today, people of Delhi will vote for better education and future for their children.”
Meanwhile, pre-poll results mostly favour Kejriwal to return as Delhi CM. As per an opinion poll conducted by Times Now and market research firm, Ipsos, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to sweep the upcoming Delhi assembly elections with 54-60 of the union territory’s 70 seats.
A tally of 10-14 for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and 0-2 for the Congress was also predicted. The vote-share for the AAP, BJP and Congress will hover around 52 per cent, 34 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively, as per the poll.
