VIDEO: "Money came, I thought Modi ji was giving so I withdrew," 2 Men, One Account; Bank Officials Confused!
Home > News Shots > India newsIn a curious case that is making headlines, a State Bank of India (SBI) customer in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district got excited after a huge amount of money got deposited in his account.
When money started coming every month, he thought that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sending it to people as he had promised to recover black money and distribute it to citizens of the country.
According to NDTV reports, Rajesh Sonkar, the manager of a SBI branch in Alampur had assigned identical account numbers to two different customers. This meant one account had two holders.
Both the customers had the same name on the passbooks only address and photo of them differed. One was of, Hukum Singh (from Rurai village) and Hukum Singh (from Rony village). After opening his account, Hukum Singh from Rurai village went to Haryana and began saving his money in the Alampur SBI, while Hukum Singh who stayed in Madhya Pradesh found money entering his account every month.
Happy to see money coming every month, he thought Prime Minister Modi and deposited it. "Money came and I thought Modiji was giving money so I withdrew it. I didn't have money and it was a necessity," he told media.
The curious case was solved after Hukum Singh (the one who went to Haryana to work) tried to withdraw money from the account; to his surprise he only had Rs. 35,400 in it. Where as he had saved Rs. 1,40,000, in the bank.
After this news went viral, SBI Alampur branch officials acknowledged the error and are working to solve the case. Meanwhile, media reports state that, it is still unclear how this situation will be solved.
