Home > News Shots > India newsIn an unexpected move, BJP government scrapped off Article 370 and Article 35A that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two union territories, J & K and Ladakh.
People around the country are split taking sides with some applauding the move and some criticizing it.
Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Hassan has released a statement calling thee move "a clear assault on democracy" and that the opposition was "shut by force."
“It is extremely regressive and autocratic. Article 370 and 35A have a genesis. Any change has to be in a consultative manner,” he said.
“Notwithstanding the ruling party’s majority, its fundamental that such a major decision is taken after putting up for discussion in the parliament,” it further read.
“The legality to revoke Article 370 and Article 35A should be a separate discussion. MNN questions the attitude of this government to shut opposition by force, which is nothing but a murder of democracy,” he said registering his condemn.
He also said that "last term it was demonetization and this term it is Article 370."
