While the Congress might have called for a Bharath bandh to protest against rising fuel prices, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken matters into his hands and announced a reduction of Rs 2 VAT on petrol and diesel prices in the state.

This, however, would cost the state a deficit of Rs 1,120 crore.

"The State is facing several financial problems post-bifurcation but we have decided to slash Rs two per litre on petrol and diesel and the price cut will come into effect from Tuesday morning," Naidu was quoted as saying.
