The Union Housing and Urban Affairs ministry (MoHUA) released the 'Ease of Living Index' rankings on Monday and Andhra Pradesh topped the charts. AP was followed by Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. According to the MoHUA, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh were awarded the three best performing states under AMRUT.

The rankings come under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2015. AMRUT aims at ensuring infrastructure development works including drainage system, drinking water, garbage collection and sanitation in municipal towns.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri reportedly said, "The Ease of Living Index seeks to assist cities in undertaking a 360-degree assessment of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats."
