India Reports Single-Day Biggest Jump In COVID-19 Death; Country Crosses 930 Fatalities

As India is still under the lockdown period and fighting against the deadly coronavirus, the country recorded 1,543 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours which has taken the total to 29,435 COVID-19 cases so far. Shockingly, India also reported 62 new deaths linked to the virus which was the biggest single-day rise. 

With this sudden spike, the total number of deaths has risen to 934. Meanwhile, so far, 6,869 patients have recovered from the infection, the Union Health Ministry said. 

Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hinted about another extension in lockdown after May 3, especially in parts of the country worst affected by the pandemic. "We have to give importance to the economy as well as continue the fight against COVID-19," PM Modi told the chief ministers through video conference. 

Most of the deaths in the country have been reported from five states, which are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan. 

Taking a look at the global stats, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases have passed three million yesterday and has killed more than 209,000 people. While, the highest number of deaths have been reported in the United States with over 55,000.
