JNU Students Protest Continues, Major Metro Stations Shut; Students Out Of Control: Watch!
Home > News Shots > India newsThe Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student protest does not seem to end; earlier today Students Union demanded that they will continue the protest until the demands of rollback of fee hikes and release of detained students are accepted.
According to ANI reports, Delhi Metro has also closed entry and exit gates at the Udyog Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan and Central Secretariat stations after hundreds of students from the JNU took to the streets. After which, city police and students clashed as the group tried to climb the barricades.
Meanwhile, JNUSU Vice President Saket Moon said that "We will hold our protest here only. The barricading and the number of police and CRPF cannot be outnumbered. But we will hold this ground until our demands."
Further highlighting over the incident, Moon stated that the Delhi Police Commissioner has promised the students union that he will arrange a meeting of the agitating students with the Human Resource Development Ministry. He also demanded release of detained students and also rollback of the entire fee hike.
Earlier today, at least 50 JNU students were detained by Delhi Police as they and hundreds of others marched on Parliament. The students' body said the march was a "way to appeal to lawmakers to fight on our behalf inside the floor of the house".
In a statement, the students union claimed that the police used brutal force to disrupt the "peaceful" march and several students have been injured. Many students, including the office bearers, have been detained.The students have been protesting a fee hike that was revealed in a recently released draft hostel manual.
