After TCS and Infosys, Another IT Major Brings Back Employees and their Families From US! Report
Home > News Shots > Business newsAfter Tech Mahindra and Tata Consultancy (TCS), Tech Mahindra and Infosys, IT major Wipro has sent special flights to bring more than 500 employees' home from the US, the UK and Australia. Employees whose visas have already expired or the ones whose visas are nearing expiry are being brought back home. The move comes nearly a week after Infosys chartered special flight to fly back 76 staff and their families which included 206 people.
“A special flight carrying over 100 employees from New York landed in Bengaluru on Tuesday (July 14). We are also chartering flights to bring back our employees from London and Germany, Saurab Govil, Wipro’s president and chief human resources officer told Times of India.
“We bring back employees every quarter. But this time around, we had a backlog as flights weren’t operational,” Govil added.
He also mentioned that Wipro does not see the temporary suspension of new H-1B visas as a hurdle. “We have over 70 per cent localization in the US. We don’t see a big disruption or an impact right now,” the daily quoted him as saying. It has been reported that the Indian information technology (IT) services company has hired a lot of people with 2-3 years of experience in the US.
Infosys associate vice-president Sanjeev Bode in a LinkedIn post had said: “Some of the Infosys employees were stranded in the US because of their visa expiration … Infosys came to their rescue. The company booked a chartered flight exclusively for over 200 employees and families from the US to India ..."
TCS helped 500 employees from the US to get back to India. TCS’ Global HR head, Milind Lakkad told the media that the overall repatriation is close to 900 people across different countries. Tech Mahindra too chartered a flight to fly 210 employees from the US.
