TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and Other IT Firms Seeking To Ease Work From Home Relaxation: Report!
Home > News Shots > Business newsWith COVID-19 at its peak, major Indian information technology (IT) services companies are seeking to ease certain key guidelines to facilitate work from home (WFH).
The companies which are planning to do so are Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCL Technologies, Wipro, and Infosys, who are probably planning to adopt the 'new model' for a long term to safeguard the interests of the technology industry.
According to a Times Now report, the IT major companies have reportedly sought easing of certain key guidelines, which allowed the industry to move lakhs of staff to WFH since March. This lockdown was announced by the Centre to contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile companies like - TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, WNS and Genpact, with offices operating from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) have asked for clarifications from regulatory authorities so that they could improve their operations.
Most of the IT firms are not just thinking to improve their operations, but also opt for a mixed model with workers operating from both home and office. This planning is being initiated because of the continuous rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
However, a government official, who has been aware of the development told ET that as per the industry estimates, it may not require up to 30-50 percent of the real estate that it at present occupies if the rules are relaxed on a permanent basis. Also, the issues flagged by the IT industry are still under consideration.
Earlier last month, IT industry body Nasscom sought guidance on whether work from home can be provided to employees forever by companies working from SEZs and STPI, Times Now further reported.
