Hundreds of Workers of TOP Hotel Group to Face Lay Off - Report!
Home > News Shots > Business newsDue to the COVID-19 pandemic, top hotel group Marriott is planning to lay off hundreds of workers in Maryland in October as there is a decline in travel. There are nearly 4,000 employees at the hotel's Bethesda headquarters, according to Marriott.
Confirming about the lay off, the company told FOX Business that the lay off will be effective from October 23, where 673 employees at Marriott’s Bethesda headquarters will be out of work.
Meanwhile, according to the Department of Labor's website, they had noted the layoffs in a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed last week. Currently, WARN notices are intended to provide substantial notice of at least 60 days to employees prior to any business closure or mass layoffs.
When the top hotel group was questioned about the lay off, Marriott declined to offer any further statements regarding future layoffs. However, the company noted that it anticipates a "significant portion" of the employees who are currently on furlough to be back to work by late September, reports FOX Business.
Earlier in March, Marriott International Inc. started to close hotels and put tens of thousands of employees on furlough. Looking at the recent layoffs, it indicates that a second wave of layoffs may be hitting American workers as cases continue to surge around the nation.
Last week, the number of laid-off Americans applying for unemployment benefits dropped to 881,000, owing to the pandemic that keeps forcing businesses to slash jobs.
