Top Firm Announces Big Lay off in a Major move - Internal email Reveals
Home > News Shots > Business newsAs a major shake-up to employees of a leading shipping group Maersk. The firm announced job cuts as part of a major reorganisation, an internal email sent to Maersk employees reads.
As per the email reviewed by Reuters, the reorganisation will impact its Safmarine and Damco brands, which will cease to exist, as well as Hamburg Süd, which Maersk bought in 2017.
“Simplifying the organisation will regrettably impact jobs due to duplicate roles and roles that will no longer be needed,” Chief Commercial Officer Vincent Clerc said in the email.
When Reuters tried to contact Maersk regarding the internal email on the job cuts they declined to comment on it. "Hamburg Sud will remain a separate brand but its back office will be rolled into that of Maersk," Clerc added in the email.
Meanwhile, a Maersk spokesperson stated that between 26,000 and 27,000 employees out of Maersk's total headcount of 80,000 will be affected by the restructuring.
