Kerala Govt Makes Big Announcement For Those Who Lost Jobs Due To COVID-19: Details!
Home > News Shots > Business newsAs India is going through a crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kerala government has announced that they have decided to roll out a ''Dream Kerala Project'' for those who lost their jobs due to the outbreak.
This project will help and support potential and experienced people especially those who are / have returned from abroad and other states after losing their jobs.
According to an NDTV report, the decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Sharing few details of the project, Vijayan told reporters that the expatriate Malayalees are the key contributors to the state's economic growth.
"More people are returning home after losing their jobs and in this situation, the Cabinet has decided to implement the ''Dream Kerala project,'' the chief minister said. This project will aim at the restoration of returning expatriates and the state's overall development and growth.
Also, one of the main reasons for the high per capita income in the state is the remittances sent by these expatriates, NDTV further reported. Meanwhile, the state government has taken several steps to utilise the investments of Non-Resident Investors for the state's development.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that, among the returnees, there are a large number of professionals from overseas and other parts of the country. Being well-known for their international expertise and experience in various fields, this project will aim to harness their potential for the future of the state.
According to government figures and stats, in 2018 Rs 85,000 crore was sent by the expatriates to the state which has now touched over Rs 1 lakh crore while their remittances in banks are 1,69,944 crore.
Further giving details about the committee, Vijayan stated that a group comprising young civil service officers, will be formed to give expert advice on the implementation of each idea. The team will evaluate the proposals and recommend this to the respective departments.
