IT Major Infosys to Offer 'Promotions' to 1,20,000 Employees amid Pandemic – Details
Home > News Shots > Business news Top IT firms including Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and Infosys have been delaying increments, promotions and had also previously stopped hiring this year, in the wake of the global pandemic. However, these companies are slowly fixing these gaps.
Infosys among its peers has emerged as the first Indian IT firm to start promoting its employees this year. India’s second big outsourcer, has announced that it is read to promote half of its employees, which accounts nearly 1.2 lakh employees. Employees can look forward to promotions by September, according to a senior company executive who spoke with Economic Times.
The source had also added that the junior and mid-level employees will be promoted, as these promotions were stalled in April due to the on-set of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Employees in job level five and below, with less than ten years of work experience are likely to be receiving promotions this year.
“Some of the promotions, we are going to start (this quarter). Promotions are also linked to where there are (vacancies),” said Krish Shankar, Human Resource Head at Infosys. He added, “However, the compensation revision, we have put on hold.”
Krish Shankar also added that the company will start hiring for senior roles but is planning on opting for lateral hiring. He announced that the process of lateral hiring is likely to begin this quarter. However, he did not mention any specific number.
Other IT peers of Infosys however, have not come forward with the news of revamping its employees’ hierarchal structure. Analysts have mentioned the possibility of promotions in the IT sector this year, but have rule out the possibility of salary increment along with a new job title.
Rituparna Chakraborty, co-founder of Teamlease, substantiated the same and said, “Companies may not hire more, but business needs to continue and hence the promotion. The pattern of doing it for certain levels and below is a trend across most sectors. But, most promotions are not backed by increment.”
