Infosys on 'Work from Home' model in the Long Run - Report
Home > News Shots > Business news The coronavirus pandemic has forced almost all Indian IT companies to adopt the work from home model. While many have already announced their strategies for this ‘new-normal’ working conditions, some are yet to completely accept the same.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and HCL Technologies announced their long-term strategies for employees to work-from-home. They have made ingrained it as their only model of operation in order to sustain the pandemic. However, Infosys admitted that they are not completely ready to announce an extended work-from-home agenda.
“There are a lot of unanswered questions and a lot of things that we have to learn from work from home. And, many of them will have some bearing on productivity,” said the Chief Operating Officer, Pravin Rao at Infosys.
“Our sense is that while it has held good, it’s too early to conclude whether work from home will always be more productive than work from office,” he added. On the contrary, TCS announced a 25/25 operating model where only 25% of their employees will be working from the office for only 25% of their time by 2025. After announcing this model, CEO Rajesh Gopinathan said, “It’s about time. Our current operating model is currently a 20-year-old legacy. In some ways, this crisis is actually leapfrogged us into a new model.”
TCS also revealed that the company does not require more than 25% of its employees in the office, to attain 100% productivity.
Similarly, HCL Technologies has announced that only 50% of its employees will have to come to work, even after the lockdown ends. This way, HCL has also ingrained the work-from-home model into its business model.
Although all the IT services have not completely accepted the work-from-home model, they have unanimously agreed on the fact that this pandemic has cut down costs. With no reimbursements and transportation costs, ITeS in India have widely saved money during this lockdown period.
