How Much do H1B Visa Engineers Earn at Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Other Companies? Details
Home > News Shots > Business newsDonald Trump’s suspension of H1B and other categories of visa till the end of 2020 has barred the H-1B visa processes as well. The extension has had a huge impact on foreign employees who are currently in the US. The move has increased local hiring leading to decline in demand for H-1B employees. The salaries of these employees are also affected due to the ban.
An analysis of data from US Labour department shows, four out of five employers who hire H1B Visa Holders in the US pay 20 percent higher wages as compares to those with the work permit than average market salaries.
According to Cato institute, an American think tank, the average wage offered for all 61,420 H-1B employers in FY 2019 was $100,461 whereas the average prevailing wage for the same skill level was $83,614. Almost 78 per cent of H-1B employers had average wage more than prevailing wage determination. Dice, analyzed the data pertaining to software engineers for the period of October 2019 and July 2020 from the H-1B Salary Database. It indexes the Labor Condition Application (LCA) disclosure data from the US Department of Labor (DOL). According to this data the wages in 2020 have declines as opposed to 2019.
Here is a list of H-1B workers’ salaries at some of the IT giants in the US:
Median Salary of H-1B Software Engineer in 2019
1- $138,000- Google
2- $125,000- Microsoft
3- $120,307-Apple
Median Salary of H-1B Software Engineer in 2019
1- $142,000- Google
2- $143,520- Microsoft
3- $168,000- Apple
4- $145,500- Amazon
5- $167,000- Facebook
Whereas, this is in contradiction with another study done by US think-tank, Economic Policy Institute which stated that around 60 percent of H-1B Workers are paid below the local median wage for the same job. Technology and IT Services companies are generally accused of replacing American workers by replacing it with lower- paid employees from other countries, especially India.
Donald Trump administration has tightened the rules for H-1B visas which is reflective through the increase in denial rates.
