IT major Cognizant made an announcement that they are all set to hire up to 23,000 people from campuses in 2021.

The newly appointed India managing director Rajesh Nambiar also confirmed that a majority of the hiring will be from India.

“We have hired approximately 17,000 from campuses this year, a sizable proportion of them in India, which is one of the highest percentages of campus hires-to-total hires since 2016. We expect to hire 23,000 from campuses in 2021,” Nambiar said, in his first interview after taking over the India unit.

According to an Economic Times report, Nambiar came on board in October and is an executive committee representative of nearly 2,00,000 associates in India. He is also responsible for strengthening the firm’s ties with Indian government agencies and policy bodies.

"How we continue the commercial momentum we already have with our clients and prospects and how we showcase our digital leadership will be among my key priorities," he said in the interview.

Nambiar, who took over as CMD of the software major on November 9, also spoke about his priorities in his new role. He stressed on the immediate goals include strengthening the company’s India operations.

"We are seeing growing client interest in shifting to agile digital workflows. That means transforming processes to become agile, data-driven, and automated. The digital services market is evolving into the next phase where clients have already understood what digital really means to their industries," Nambiar finally noted.
