British Petroleum Sets Up Center In India, To Hire 2,000 People: Check Details
Home > News Shots > Business newsAs a sigh of relief amid the deadly COVID-19 crisis, multinational oil and gas company - British Petroleum (BP) is planning to set up a new centre for its global business services (GBS) operations in Maharashtra's Pune city.
As per LiveMint report, this new centre will employ at least 2,000 people; it will also support digital innovation across BP globally. The new centre is expected to begin operations only by January 2021. Also, once the operation begins, it will provide advanced analytics capabilities in support of BP businesses worldwide.
British Petroleum, feels that India is a growing market with a growing digital talent pool, so this new centre in India, it will assume operational ownership of third-party business processes. It will also seek to further extend its work with analytics and data science capabilities to pursue better business outcomes and profit.
Delighted over this development and idea, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan said, “I welcome BP's move to establish a major new global business services centre in Pune. The new centre once operational will create opportunities for the growing local digital talent pool in India and will employ 2000 people to support its global businesses.”
Earlier last month, it was reported that due to the economic crisis on the oil market, British Petroleum decided to lay off 10,000 employees from its workforce globally by 2020. After which BP's CEO Bernard Looney confirmed that the job cuts were essential to help the company to tide over the global collapse in oil demand.
"You are already aware that, beyond the clear human tragedy, there has been widespread economic fallout, along with consequences for our industry and our company," said Looney's mail.
