With growing fears that the COVID-19 pandemic might extend until next year, top technology giant Amazon announced that it will allow employees to work from home until January 8, 2021.

The company also said that it will continue restricting business travel until the pandemic comes under control.

“We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidance. Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until January 8," the company said in a statement.

Amazon further stated that it has invested "significant funds and resources" for employees who choose to come to the office; keeping in mind physical distancing, deep learning, temperature checks, and by providing face coverings and hand sanitizer most of the time.

Earlier, Amazon had said that corporate staff could work remotely until early October. As per News18 report, employees at Amazon’s warehouses have no such luxury because they are essential workers, who are required to fulfill online orders as many Americans continue to hunker down at home.

Amazon had earlier paid these workers an extra $2 an hour and let them take leave with no questions asked. Currently, the company revoked those perks and now request warehouse workers to apply for leave.

Meanwhile, few employees at a warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee, blame Amazon for ending the no-questions-asked leave and resent the fact that other employees can work from home. Further giving details about the colleagues, they say their Memphis colleagues are getting sick with COVID-19 in southern U.S. states.
