The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced two Chinese Telecom services, as “national security threats.”

This order came a day after the Indian Ministry blocked 59 Chinese applications including TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser and Cam Scanner, calling them a threat to the nation’s security. The FCC has also stated that it will not let the country’s communication network face threats from the outside, due to which it has terminated Huawei and ZTE.

“As a result of today’s action, money from FCC’s $8.3 billion-a-year Universal Fund may no longer be used to purchase, obtain, maintain, improve, modify or otherwise support any equipment or services produced by these suppliers,” the FCC statement said.

"We cannot and will not allow the Chinese Communist Party to exploit network vulnerabilities and compromise our critical communications infrastructure," FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement on Tuesday.

In order to arrive at this decision, the FFC took inputs from US Congress, Intelligence community, Executive branch, “Allies”, and communication service providers. Pai added that both Huawei and ZTE are risks to the National security.

"With this decision, we are sending a clear message: the U.S. Government, and this @FCC in particular, cannot and will not allow the Chinese Communist Party to exploit vulnerabilities in U.S. communications networks and compromise our critical communications infrastructure," said the FCC chairman.
