Directed and produced by costume designer Roshni Dinakar and written by actor/writer Shankar Ramakrishnan, My Story is the first Malayalam release for Prithviraj and Parvathy together on screen. As the name suggests, My Story is the story of actor Jay (Prithviraj), actress Tara (Parvathy) and their special bond.
Lost love has the power to pull you down from the heights of glory and stop you from enjoying the sweetness of your success. It is then you finally decide to go in search of what your soul has been longing for years. In My Story, Superstar Jay goes to Portugal, searching for his first heroine whom he had lost almost 20 years ago.
To be frank, the film is a half-baked cake that has predictability and repetitiveness as its ingredients. There are many scenes that appear to be very plastic and unrealistic, while only a few scenes establish the presence of a soul in it. The film that has 98% of the portions canned in Portugal, looks more like a Bollywood film from the late 90's that stressed on scenic beauty and the big canvas rather than substance.
Prithviraj and Parvathy are two very good actors who have enthralled the audience with stellar performances in the past. Unfortunately, their performances are not as shiny as what is expected from them mainly due to the less engaging story. Despite flying low, they still manage to sail through, without getting hurt. Supporting cast Ganesh Venkatraman, Manoj K Jayan, Maniyanpilla Raju and Nandhu deliver decent performances.
The cinematography is the best part of the movie having some good visuals that show the richness of the location. The songs and the background score have also supported the visuals well. Even though the movie has quality in it, it lacks the x-factor required to make it magical.
