Vijay's Mersal has been getting an overwhelming support from common public and several political parties regarding the re-censoring controversy. DYFI (The Democratic Youth Federation of India) members have started a protest in Chennai in support of Mersal.

In a recent press release, DYFI president PA. Mohammed Riyas said, “We cannot understand why the BJP is so antithetical to cinema dialogues critical of its government. It shows that party’s fascist mentality.”
