What is it about?

Mom one of the most anticipated films which were in production for over two years finally hit screens. The movie is about an eighteen-year-old girl who is the daughter of Sridevi gets gang raped and what happens next is the plot of the story. Mom brings real happenings in India as how culprits escape from the law, and the movie gives more liveliness while doing so. Mom is a revenge thriller, and Sridevi plays the good mother for her daughter Sajal Ali and a bad but bold mother for the culprits with whom she takes the revenge.

What makes up the film?
Sridevi plays the teacher and also a lovely mother to Arya ( Sajal Ali) but who fails to understand her love from her teenage. Arya thinks that Sridevi is taking away her freedom and doesn't see the love that Sridevi has on her. Gradually after the horrific incident, Arya sees Sridevi's actual love and feels for her. While on the other hand of the film, Sridevi is helped by Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays the secret agent in the film. Akshaye Khanna plays the cop in the film.

What doesn't work?
Mom is not a regular Bollywood film which is high on commercial elements. Right from the very first scene, the movie is on a serious note, and director Ravi's screenplay does not have any suspense in this revenge-thriller. The movie is very predictable from the first half of the film which doesn't work for movie lovers who would expect a twist in thriller genres. In the second-half of the film it pretty much sure as in what is going to happen which does not create any curiosity for the audiences.

What worked?
Director Ravi Udyawar sensibly handles characters such as Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna and Adnan Siddiqui in the screenplay which has worked well. AR Rahman's background score and Anay Goswami's cinematography has also worked well. Editor Monisha's sharp cuts and wonderful editing old the film despite predictable. Lastly, Sridevi's acting needs an applause, in fact, she has single-handedly convinced the character as Mom.

Well?
Mom is a predictable thriller but Sridevi adds more value to the film. Real incidents and current affairs in the screenplay make the film more interesting.

Verdict: This time Sridevi plays a serious 'Mom.'
