Thumbaa is an interesting live-action Tamil film. The cast includes Darshan, Dheena and Keerthi Pandian. Directed by Harish Ram, has Thumbaa come about as an amazing adventure, read the review to find out.

Thumbaa is introduced as the T-14 tiger that escapes the reserve with its cub. It is rumoured that the tiger is now in the Top Slip area of Nilgiris. Dheena comes as a painter who hires his ‘not so successful’ friend Darshan as his companion to paint a tiger statue in the middle of the Top Slip jungle.

From then on, their funny episode with a monkey, the elephant chase take the first half forward until they stumble on the ‘wannabe’ wildlife photographer named Varsha (Keerthi Pandian). Their episodes in the forest, the amazing villagers who risk their lives to protect the tiger, the cruel plot by the Forest officer which they find out: all of these make Thumbaa’s second half a joyful ride.

There is not much of sentiments or drama involved in the film but the lead roles make sure they do their parts well in making the journey as engaging as possible and they have been successful at it. The entire cast other than the lead artists too have surprisingly delivered neat performances and there is no tone of artificiality anywhere.

The cinematography lets you visualize the forest through light and dark. The music, though not remarkable, has rendered its support to the film nicely. The VFX demands appreciation for the fact that it didn’t seem artificial or disturbing at any point but was almost lifelike (for the standards Tamil cinemas has seen yet).

Jayam Ravi’s cameo appearance was sure a right surprise. The message the film conveys and the confidence in bringing out the right aspects for it are some great aspects of the film. It seemed more like a thought-out film that didn’t waste time on unwanted commercial elements.

If you are expecting a perfect live-action movie of International standards, Thumbaa might not cope up with it, but it is a very genuine attempt in delivering a make-believe, live-action drama that delivers a good message and entertains the family audiences through the runtime.

Thumbaa demands its appreciation for the attempt, its standards and novelty. Good to see Tamil cinema going off its usual track quite frequently. Thumbaa will entertain your kids and make sure they understand that man must co-exist with wildlife.
