Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja is a director who earned a great fan following with his very first movie Aaranya Kaandam. The film was widely acclaimed and it also fetched him a National Award for Best First Film of a Director.
It has been 5 years since the release of Aaranya Kaandam, but no announcement came out regarding his next. When we spoke to him last month, he said, "I have been working on a script for the past one and a half years. Looks like things are falling in place this time around." To all those who were waiting to know about his next, here comes the interesting information.
Sources close to the director's unit suggest that 'Makkal Selvan' Vijay Sethupathi is most likely to play one of the leads in Kumararaja's next, while it is said that for the other lead role, Malayalam superstars like Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil are being considered. We are also told that the director is in talks with some of the leading producers in K-town to fund this movie. An official announcement regarding this is expected soon, once things get finalized.
A couple of months ago, on the 24th of August, director SA Chandrasekhar was severely injured after having slipped in his room in Kerala. During a recent conversation with Behindwoods, SAC had revealed what exactly happened and how the media goofed up the issue.
“I am planning to do a film and I had gone to Kerala on a story discussion with my team. It was my wife’s birthday that day and I was excited to wish her over the phone. I had just taken my bath when the phone rang. I rushed to catch the call, I slipped on the floor.
It was nasty; I called my assistants and they carried me to the car. What was more tragic was, that the hospital was 7 kms away from the place where we stayed and on our way to the hospital, our car went and banged on a bus because of which media reported that I was admitted in the hospital due to a car accident. I had lost so much of blood in the process. I was somehow taken to the hospital in one piece and the doctors took care of the rest.”
We wish SA Chandrasekhar recovers to the fullest very soon.
The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association had some time back sought for an increase in ticket price in theatres; the range was about a 150 to 200% higher than the existing one. However, this was rejected by a Government Order on the ground that the demand was very high.
But the First Bench of Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice R. Mahadevan of Madras High Court set aside this Government Order on Monday (24th October). They have directed the government to reconsider the Exhibitors’ request within a month after considering the issue afresh based on the parameters outlined by the association.
We would soon know the government’s decision about the ticket pricing. As of now the ticket pricing, when we consider multiplexes, is comparatively cheaper in Tamil Nadu than other metros.
Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie starrer, Ranjit Jeyakodi directorial Mellisai has gone for a title change. It will henceforth be called as Puriyadha Pudhir. It has to be recalled that, this is also the name of the cult classic of 1990 which was directed by KS Ravikumar and produced by R B Choudary for Super Good Films.
Confirming about this, Ranjit says, “Yes, we have changed the title to Puriyadha Pudhir. It is purely for business purposes. Titles like Moodupani and Netrikann were suggested. Finally, we zeroed in on Puriyadha Pudhir which again will be apt for the story as the film is a thriller. In fact the film was titled as Moodu Pani first but we later changed to Mellisai. And now, we tried for Moodu Pani and Netri Kann but we could not get those titles. We approached Supergood film RB Choudary sir who was kind enough to give the title to us”.
As regards the release of the film, Ranjit says that it will mostly be a November release. He furthers, “We would also be releasing the trailer of the film soon”.
It has to be recalled that JS Satish Kumar of JSK Film Corporation has bought the worldwide release rights of this Vijay Sethupathi starrer.
We all know that Dhanush has announced a project with Karthik Subbaraj a few months back and looks like the project is going to kick off soon. It is reported that acclaimed Hollywood actor Al Pacino has been approached for the project, but no details about the role or the confirmation are not clear.
When we contacted the director about this, he replied, "Nothing has been confirmed."
We hope this combination really happens and this will be a major change in Tamil cinema as casting an acclaimed Hollywood actor will help the project in both content and business factors. let us wait for the official confirmation.
Ever since Thuppakki, Vijay has been crooning his voice for one song in his films. He has followed it in Thalaivaa, Jilla, Kaththi, Puli and Theri. Looks he will be doing it again this time for his current film Bairavaa.
When we checked with the director of the film, Bharathan, he said "Yes, Vijay sir will be singing a number for Bairavaa."
It would be a new and exciting to see Vijay sing for the new age music director Santhosh's tunes. Wouldn't it be?
