When a dreaded gangster with absolutely no discernible acting skills literally puts a gun to your head and forces to make an action film with him in the lead, what will you do. But Jigarthanda’s protagonist Karthik (not to be confused with the film’s director, Karthik Subbaraj) makes a comedy without his lead actor, gangster “Assault” Sethu even realising that he is being conned into playing a buffoon. Karthik Subbaraj mastefully combines the meta-film and the gangster film genre and this rib-tickling film within a film is a small yet beautiful result of that.
