JAYALALITHAA'S EARLY LIFE
Jayalalithaa was born on 24 February 1948 in Mandya district of the then Mysore State. She was given her grandma's name Koamalavalli. She attended Bishop Cotton Girls' School and Sacred Heart Matriculation School in Chennai.
JAYALALITHAA AS A CHILD ARTIST
Jayalalithaa appeared in a Kannada movie named Sri Shaila Mahathme, which released in 1961 and had popular Kannada actor Rajkumar as the lead.
JAYALALITHAA AND BHARATNATYAM
Jayalalithaa's Bharatnatyam Arangetram happened at the Rasika Ranjani Sabha in Mylapore in May 1960, with Shivaji Ganesan as the Chief Guest.
JAYALALITHAA'S DEBUT IN TAMIL CINEMA
Jayalalithaa debuted in Tamil cinema with a leading role in Vennira Aadai movie directed by C. V. Sridhar, which released in 1965.
JOINS AIADMK IN 1982
Jayalalithaa joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam under the leadership of MGR and served a the Rajya Sabha MP from 1984 to 1989.
FIRST WOMAN TO BECOME THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION IN TAMIL NADU
Jayalalithaa became the first woman to become the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly, after winning Bodinayakkanur constituency in 1989
JAYALALITHAA FIRST TERM AS TAMIL NADU CM
AIADMK in alliance with the Indian National Congress won the majority in 2001 elections and Jayalalithaa became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time.
SECOND TERM AS CM IN 2001
Jayalalithaa served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the second time, winning the 2001 elections.
2011 GENERAL ELECTIONS
Jayalalithaa was elected as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in the 14th state assembly elections and sworn in as the Tamil Nadu CM for the third time in May 2011.
2016 GENERAL ELECTIONS
Jayalalithaa was elected as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in June 2016 and became the second Chief Minister after MGR to serve consecutive terms as the CM of Tamil Nadu
