Looking into the list of movies that were either put on hold or shelved, for that matter, gives us an idea of just how difficult the business of filmmaking is. Here’s a list of projects whose shooting commenced, completed, unreleased or put on hold.
KARIKALAN

Cast: Vikram, Zarine Khan, Anjali
Reason: 25% of the film was almost complete when reports stating creative differences surfaced. It can be expected that the project will resurface again.
MARUDHANAYAGAM
Director: Kamal Haasan
Cast: Kamal Haasan, Nassar, Vishnuvardhan, Sathyaraj
Reason: Marudhanayagam is the obvious topper in the list, with expectations and hopes of revival are rampant.
ENGINEER 1997
Director: Gandhi Krishna
Cast: Arvind Swamy, Madhuri Dixit
Reason: The film was announced in 1997 and reportedly 80% of the film got completed when the film lost it’s momentum completely.
VEERA DHEERA SOORAN
Director: Shankar Dayal
Cast: Vishnu Vishal, Catherine Tresa
Reason: The film’s shooting was commenced until 2015 but is still awaiting a wrap and theatrical release.
KAAN 2013
Director: Selvaraghavan
Cast: Simbu, Catherine Tresa, Taapsee Pannu
Reason: The film initially started progress with Trisha in the lead opposite Simbu, but was later replaced by Catherine. Further progress was made in 2015 until it was put on hold till further notice.
RENDAVATHU PADAM 2011
Director: C.S.Amudhan
Cast: Vemal, Remya Nambeesan, Vijayalakshmi, Aravind Akash, Richard Rishi
Reason: The film’s shooting is in the completed stage but is still awaiting a release date for unknown reasons.
CHENNAIYIL ORU MAZHAIKALAM 2007

Cast: Trisha
Reasons: Shooting for the film began with the plot set in Chennai’s IT industry, but later got shelved for reasons best known to the makers. The project was announced as dropped until further notice.
VETTAI MANNAN 2010
Director: Nelson
Cast: Simbu, Hansika, Jai, Deeksha Seth, Santhanam, VTV Ganesh
Reason: It was revealed that 50% of the film was shot when the film also got a teaser release. But then in 2013, finally after much delay, Simbu announced that he had dropped out of the project until further notice.
KETTAVAN 2008
Director: G.T.Nandhu
Cast: Simbu, Lekha Washington, Namitha, Santhanam
Reason: Parts of the film were shot with music composed by Yuvan, not for reasons best known to the makers, the film got shelved.
KALAVADIYA POZHUTHUGAL 2009
Director: Thangar Bachan
Cast: Prabhudeva, Bhumika Chawla, Santhanam, Sathyaraj
Reason: Though the film’s principal photography was reportedly completed in 2010, the film is yet to see a theatrical release.
