Adi Vaadi Thimira
Singer: Gold Devaraj
Lyricist: Uma Devi

Adi Vaadi Thimira was the single track which was released for Magalir Mattum’s promo. It has a rock genre tag with it. The rock guitar and the vocals of Gold Devaraj go well with each other. There is a mild backing vocal and a chorus that pep up the lines Adi Vaadi Thimira. In a majorly western based song, Ghibran chooses to tease us with the use of Nadhaswaram and individual native instruments in the right mix. Sound design is also superior making the song an instant likeable one.

Ghandhari Yaaro
Singers: Padmalatha, Anurag Kulkarni
Lyrics: Thamarai

Ghandhari Yaaro starts off with some Hindi verses and the Tamil takes over from there. The song’s start has similarities to Rayile Raa from Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah which also had music by composer Ghibran. The Abhang and Ghazal feels add beauty to this song. Vocals by Padmalatha and Anurag are impressive and there is a good use of Thavil and certain rare percussions that add the uniqueness that Ghibran triumphs on.

Gubu Gubu Gubu
Singers: Karthi, Ghibran
Lyrics: Vivek

The song is crooned by actor Karthi and Ghibran. Karthi sounds positive, fresh and this sure is a good start to the singer in him. The song follows a country-jazz tune with fast paced beats. The country tune has been twinned with a beautiful violin piece. There is an innovation even in the autotune portion and it all just backs up Karthi’s singing. Lyrics by Vivek are simple yet enjoyable making it the pick of the album.

Bullet Song (Dam Mast Qalandar)
Singers: Yazin Nizar, Chennai Qawwali Kids, Ghibran

The Bullet song has a Punjabi flavor and it’s theme is that of a bike ride. As titled, it starts off with the sound of a Bullet bike and goes on with Hindi lyrics (Mast Qalandar) and voices of kids that serve as a chorus. With a slightly monotonous beat and rhythm, the Bullet song is Ghibran’s Bangladeshi/ North Indian song for Magalir Mattum.

Carratu Pottazhagaa
Singers: Namitha, Oorvashi, Ghibran, Gold Devaraj
Lyrics: Bramma

Carratu Pottazhagaa is a mischievous number from the composer. With the vocals of actress Oorvashi that are super innocent and also backed by Namitha and Gold Devaraj, this is a treat for those who want something different all the time. The folkish melody has a lot to offer, including the pause and play style composition which teases the listener.

Time Passukkosaram
Vocals
: Saranya Ponvannan, Padmalatha
Lyrics: Bramma

This is a short song which has a folk stint. The folk beats are well paced. There is a rich use of instruments like violin, guitar, flute, Shehnai and Nadhaswaram all blended well together. Lyrics by Bramma are very situational and there is a tinge of Telugu verses too.

Karu Karunnu
Vocals: Bhanupriya, Namitha Babu, Gold Devaraj
Lyrics : Bramma

Another quick number that depicts a girl explaining a guy’s appearance. It is also of the folk genre. Vocals by Bhanupriya, Namitha and Gold Devaraj are quirky and apt for the mood. There is again the use of instruments and the song is very situational.

Magalir Mattum
Ghibran

The theme of Magalir Mattum which is dominated by the flute is yet another impressive theme by Ghibran. With the feel good tag, it has the right blend to kindle memories of the past. The strings, piano join the flute’s party and there is a small Nadhaswaram tune too to finish with!

Verdict: Ghibran encapsulates various styles of music within Magalir Mattum that is majorly situational and apt!
