Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal (EVA) is a comedy film directed by Mahendran Rajamani starring Jai and Pranitha in the leads. It has Kaali Venkat, Karunakaran, and Naveen in pivotal supporting characters.

When given a very simple, straight story about friendship and love, what can be done to pep up the proceedings? A guy in love with a girl gets cheated by her. How do his friends deal with this issue? Just as the title suggests, Jai has 3 good friends who he takes for granted and this movie deals with the comedy and emotions between them. But how is the treatment? Find out by reading the below few paragraphs.

It is a no-nonsense comedy movie with minimal unrealistic scenes. When a story as simple as this has been chosen as the plot, there is no room for experimentation, but it must be said that director Mahendran has used his resources decently to bring out a funny film with an emotional touch to it. It also ends up being meaningful and does not force you to laugh or complain. But the problem for Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal comes in the engagement department. Though you have a funny scene here and there, the film does have plenty of lag moments which should have been tightened.

The whole script is based on how Jai is pushed to make a hasty act and how his friends react to this. But even though we know that Jai’s character is not strong enough to make that hasty decision, we are forced to believe that he might do. Beyond a point, it gets so redundant, and it could even be a little annoying for some.

The natural characterization of Kaali Venkat, Karunakaran and Naveen is the saving grace for EVA. Their roles have something more than just being the hero’s friends. Their individuality, combination, and chemistry have been established well. The father-son relationship concept and Premgi reference scene are some of the noteworthy scenes. Santhanam has appeared in an important cameo that serves to be the core line of the film. The director has decided to throw light on the relationships in the IT industry and the current scenario there, and this too shows his observance and update.

It seems like Jai’s character is a proper continuation of his portrayal in Raja Rani and that is exactly what is demanded by this movie too. A timid guy with subtle emotions and a unique voice and dialogue delivery, Jai has played it safe. Pranitha does not have much to do, but the dimension given to the female lead is different in this film. Her character sketch looks very poor and lacks clarity. The overall filmmaking looked weak. Music of Santhosh Dhayanidhi was average so were the visuals.

As in other commercial movies, there is a continuous use of Thala Thalapathy references and this space is open for debate. On the whole, EVA is nothing alarmingly new; there are a few good laughs here and there, but that’s pretty much about it.

Verdict: A simple comedy film that engages only in parts...
