Vazkhai Oru Ottagam

Singer: Benny Dayal

Lyrics: Vivek Velmurugan

The album begins on an optimistic note with a quirky composition supported well by the string section and a stylish rhythm section. The stylish bass work, cheery saxophone, and trumpets add much value to the composition. The lyrics are quite appealing and have a tinge of a philosophical impact as well. However, it is the violin section which scores the maximum marks for its consistency and melodious touch.

Elandha Pazham

Singer: Yogi Sekar

Lyrics: S.Gnanakaravel

A nostalgic trip arrives next with a laid back solo comprising of sleek piano touches and brilliant bass work. The interludes are moody and at the same time create a riveting atmosphere. The jazzy drums achieve a great effect to the composition with mastery and perfection. After ages, the superimposition technique over vocals has been used quite well.

Imsai Rani

Singer: Karthik

Lyrics: Vivek Velmurugan

A wonderfully sweet and melodious number sung by Karthik makes its presence strongly felt. The captivating string section and syncopated rhythm are quite impressive and experimental. The symphony styled progression gives the song a royal impact. Karthik makes no mistakes with his sweetest vocals which is like an effortless ride for him.

Vaagadai Veedu

Singer: Jiby, Deepu, Philip, Sajan and K

Lyrics: S.Gnanakaravel

A Spanish Rumba feast arrives next with indigenous vocals and carrying the international flavors in mastery. The song has an irresistible influence of Akkam Pakkam Paar from Ka Ka Po and at the same time follows a different path. The usage of quirky rhythm base is a great master stroke. The storytelling style of lyrics and narration is quite enjoyable to hear.

Kaarmegazhukali

Singer: Jananie S.V

The jazzy influence continues with another velvety composition with supreme bass work and lazy piano touches. The Jazz guitar solo gives the song a breathtaking aura in brilliant ease. The relaxed pace of the song is another highlight.

108 Thenga

Singer: K

Lyrics: S.Gnanakaravel

The composer explores the best of Blues with extreme funkiness fused with Tamil folksy aroma. The song interestingly has the usage of thavil in the rhythm section and it is quite a good experiment. The impressive mélange of Modern Jazz, Blues, and Rustic folk is greatly explored in this composition. Watch out for the retro sounds which add even more funkiness to the track.

Gandhi Thatha

Singer: Darwin Guna

Lyrics: Darwin Guna

The quirkiness is back with a stylish composition high on energy levels in terms of Rap vocals and live drumming. The recurring trumpets are quite fun to hear and the storytelling narrative gives a win-win situation once again. The trance background is quite impressive as well. But it might take a while to find an appeal to the common audience.

Polambing Song

Singer: K

Lyrics: Velmurugan

Another quirky composition arrives with lazy vocals and impressive superimposition technique applied to flawless precision. The indigenous rhythm is fused well with Jazz styled vocals having a tinge of the folk element. The song is ideal for a late night listening to laze out the moodiness!

Yaaro Petha Pillai

Singer: Anthony Dasan

Lyrics: S.Gnanakaravel

The finale has a subtle composition with moderate energy levels in the form of live drums. The folk-styled vocals have a bit of hilarity, melody and at the same time deep impact. The bass work takes an inevitable front seat but the biggest highlight is the remarkable violin solo in the first interlude.

Verdict: Aandavan Kattalai is a brilliant album from K who gives the best of various genres in a perfect package.
