Tamil stars and their tryst with elephant films

The climax portion of Arya’s upcoming film Kadamban is currently being shot in Thailand's Chiang Mai. Around 50 elephants will be involved in this climax portion and they were recently trained.

Elephant films were once very common in Tamil cinema. Devar Films, one of the reputed production banners used to make many films featuring elephants. In fact, their title card would feature a video footage of roaring elephant.

Similarly, most top heroes from Kollywood starting from MGR to Rajini, have acted in at least one elephant based film. The significance of elephants in Tamil films started way back in 1953 when Kothamangalam Subbu decided to cast elephants in his classic hit film Avvaiyar. The last notable Tamil release with an elephant character would be Kumki.
