A letter has been sent by PETA to Don Sandy, director of Jiiva's upcoming film Gorilla, requesting him to refrain from using the chimpanzee that has been part of the film until now, due to the fact that it is a case of animal cruelty.

In a statement by Sachin Bangera, associate director of celebrity and public relations, PETA, he said:

“Compassionate and, forward-thinking filmmakers would never dream of hauling sensitive wild animals to a chaotic movie set and forcing them to ‘act’ for viewers' amusement.

PETA India is calling on Gorilla's director to cut the cruelty and switch to modern and humane CGI and visual-effects technology. Blockbusters such as the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise and 'The Jungle Book' have relied on technology and advanced CGI to create realistic animal characters without harming or harassing their live counterparts."

As a response to this letter, reports also say that Don Sany has sent out a letter stating that shoot of the film has already been wrapped up, and that all the rules and legal formalities of both India and Thailand (where the chimpanzee was hired) have been adhered to.
