“I NEVER QUESTIONED THE GOVERNMENT ABOUT MY TAXES”, KAMAL HAASAN

In the aftermath of the recent floods and its devastation in Chennai and other places, there also came a controversy regarding Kamal Haasan’s take on the same and minister O Panneerselvam’s rejoinder on the issue.

Kamal has thrown light on the matter in a letter addressed to all media in his official Facebook page. Following is an excerpt from the same.

“Some sections of the media had reported a few days back that I had questioned the government about the status of my taxes. I wish to state that I have not given any exclusive interview to any media. It was an email written in English to my north Indian journalist friend which has been roughly translated into Tamil and is being circulated.

The letter was about the recent catastrophe in Tamil Nadu and the sufferings of people here. I have neither mentioned about the government nor about the status of my taxes. If I were that doubtful, I would never have paid my taxes mentioning about my income. I always believe in delivering my duties at all times.

This is not a reply to Mr Panneerselvam. At a time like this, when political parties and other organizations are working to help people, there should not be a disturbance in their work and that’s the reason I am giving an explanation. This is a time, when people will have to keep their personal likes and dislikes aside and work in a constructive manner to bring people out from their agony.

Irrespective of the ruling government, our Narpani Iyakkam has been actively involved in the welfare activities of people for the past 36 years. I am not aligned to any political party mainly to continue welfare measures collaborating with all”.
