I just came back from the theatre after watching this incredible movie about Srinivas Ramanujan, the man who redefined Mathematics. The movie is about the bond he had with Prof. Hardy from Cambridge, London and how they collaborated together for 5 years to make some of the ground breaking discoveries in the field of Mathematics.
The movie, however though, not only shows their bond. It also shows how Ramanujan, a non-graduate from Madras, India strives to make his discoveries published - of course, with the help of Prof Hardy. Dev Patel as Ramanujan and Jeremy Irons as Prof Hardy steal the show. It’s easily the best performance of Dev Patel.
And Jeremy Irons is not behind either. He has acted in many movies, but the one I strikingly remember is his role of a villain in the DIE HARD series against Bruce Willis. As Prof Hardy, Jeremy gives a matured performance and I am happy that I will be able to remember him in this role in the future replacing his DIE HARD role.

I am not going to dwell much about the movie here, as it’s an experience one should feel than talk about it (or) should I say write about it. Being an Indian myself, I don’t recollect how many movies were made on this great mathematician. May be there were movies, but I wasn’t aware of them (or) haven’t watched them. But to see a foreigner direct about our own Indian personality, reminds me of Richard Attenborough directed GANDHI movie. I don’t know whether to feel happy to see that the talents of our very own man has reached across seas (or) to feel sad that it takes a foreigner to introduce to us about our people. But whatever it is, it’s a movie that, we as Indians, should be proud of. This is a story that we, as Indians should know and for that very reason, this movie deserves a watch.
