Keerthy Suresh, the next lady superstar of Kollywood

Keerthy Suresh. The sensation that is stirring Kollywood currently. What makes her that? Right after her debut last year in 2015, a film with Vijay, Dhanush and two films back to back with Sivakarthikeyan means there’s something stellar about her. All this happening to her at a very young age of 23 means the best is yet to come. Here’s a special write up that tries to explore the rise of Keerthy Suresh.

Born to celebrity couple, producer Suresh and actress Menaka Suresh, Keerthy can be called a typical Chennai ponnu. Because she made her debut through Malayalam films, and since she has the Malayali look about her, people forget the fact that she is still the next door Tamil girl! She finished her primary education and her college here. She lives with her granny in Chennai, making her a home girl. Probably that is why we feel that mysterious connection. On a more grounded note, it’s very rarely that a bubbly, charming and cute Tamil speaking actress fails to win the hearts of her local audience.

Perhaps it can be said that glamour quotient leaves a whole number remainder. Most of her past films we’ve seen her sporting a traditional or subtly modern attires, but never exuding the glam factor. In fact Keerthy herself can be quoted as saying that she stays away from such roles. “I should be able to watch my films with my mom, dad, future husband and kids”, she said during an interview. That particular factor alone contributes to a wider range of fans. She definitely is one of those actresses, mothers would admit to their sons as a beautiful girl!

Though she acted in Malayalam films like Pilots, Achaneyanenikkishtam and Kuberan as a child artist, her first film was Priyadarshan's Geethanjali which was also a Mohanlal starrer. Her debut in Tamil was through A.L.Vijay’s 2015 flick Idhu Enna Mayam alongside Vikram Prabhu. It could be said that since then good films have come her way and she has always chosen them properly.

But on a lighter and liberal note, as a fan stunned by her iconic expressions in the song ‘Un Mela Oru Kannu’, I feel it is the plethora of relatable expressions she’s able to pull off with ease that makes her everyone’s favourite. She is as I would like to remark an encyclopedia of expressions. Expressions lead to engagement and captivation and that makes her the perfect choice for any filmmaker.

With her film alongside Dhanush, Thodari releasing this weekend on 22nd Septemeber, we talked to the film’s director Prabhu Solomon about what he feels is responsible for her success. “She deserves all the success she’s been receiving. Whatever was required for the character, she was ready to do. The amount of dedication she puts in with good will makes it clear that she will be going miles!” He said speaking about Keerthy.

“She speaks Tamil fluently, She is a wonderful actor and she’s a friendly person at heart”, answers comedy specialist Sathish concurring with us on the reasons for her sensational rise. Sathish who will be seen sharing screen space with her in upcoming films such as Remo and Bairavaa also remarks “Working with her on the sets of Bairavaa, I noticed how she works alongside a big star like Vijay sir. She is very respectful and could be seen behaving like any normal fan of Vijay sir. I feel that is also something responsible for her success.”

There is something about the young actress, something easily alluring, that makes her a favourite for many. Armed with charming good looks, engaging and captivating emotions and the ability to exude the girl next door feel she becomes the perfect choice for a filmmaker. Something about Keerthy Suresh makes me want to hope that this article serves as a genuine prediction about the actress becoming a lady superstar in the future.
