Anirudh 27th Birthday Special Column

Ever since I became a Journalist, it's a ritual for me to write a dedication to Anirudh on every birthday of his. Two years back it was "Keep Rocking Rockstar," and last year it was "Anirudh, the favorite of our Generation." Here goes this year's special column "The most-wanted voice of the New Generation."

Anirudh has sung 87 songs in his 5-year-long career. He has sung in Hindi, Telugu, English and Tamil. STR thanked Anirudh for singing "Hey Vasamooka" in Vaalu through his twitter, "Thanks to Anirudh for singing in Vaalu. Really a great gesture. Didn't even take a single penny. Happy to have a friend like you."

It's true. Anirudh doesn't take money for singing songs on other albums. He sings it for the camaraderie with co-musicians and the welfare and growth of the Tamil Industry. Anirudh, in an interview, told that he doesn't take money for singing in other music albums since singing isn't something he came here to do.

Discussing his singing versatility, he is the only singer in my generation who can sing both, a massive electrifying number like "Naan Raja"(Sethupathi) and also a mindblowing melody like "Yaanji" (Vikram Vedha). He has won the hearts of the audience with different tastes, including the rural people with songs like Edhukku Machan (Maapilai Singam), Dandanakka (Romeo Juliet), Akka Petha Jakkavandi (Marudhu). Whereas, there's hardly a club in Chennai, where you cannot hear Chennai City Gangster (Vanakkam Chennai). He has sung songs to cater all your moods throughout a day.

1. Frustrated with your life? - There is Mun Sellada (Manithan)

2. Obsessed with your work? - There is Naan Raja (Sethupathi)
3. Wanna think about the first Love of your life? - There is Idhazhin Oram (3)
4. Have a feeling of kicking your boss at
office? - There is Velai Illa Pattathaari (VIP)
5. If you're high on a Saturday night at Home - There is Maari Thara Local (Maari) and
Aaluma Doluma (Vedalam)
6. If you're high on a Saturday Night at a Club - There is Open the Tasmac (Maan Karate) and Hola Amigo (Rum)
7. Love your friend? - There is Thozhaaa (Thozha)
8. Okay, for the teetotalers he's got Rockaankuthu (
Premam) and Naanga Podiyan (Pugazh)
9. Out on a date with your girlfriend? - There is Hey Vasamooka (Vaalu) and Thangamey (Naanum Rowdy Dhaan)
10. If you're on a long bike ride with your girl, you will have the best feeling if you hear Boomi Ena Suthudhe (Ethir Neechal)

He hasn't sung songs yet for Ilayaraja, Harris Jayaraj, Ghibran, Hip Hop Tamizha Adhi and Leon James. If he completes singing in the albums of the above music composers, he would be the only singer to have sung in the albums of all music directors in Tamil Industry (during his Musical Career).

Anirudh's voice has gone up to such a level that if he sings any song on another album, the producers have started to believe that it is indirect marketing for their movie.

Anirudh is undoubtedly one singer our generation cannot forget quickly. My dad tells me that I used to switch off the radio in our car when his favourite 'Mandram Vantha Thendraluku' (Mouna Raagam) played in radio. Now I'm excitedly waiting to see if my son would switch off my car's audio system when I listen to 'Nee Partha Vizhigal' (3).

Having said all these, our Rockstar has sung 87 songs so far, in his 5-year musical journey. Anirudh Ravichander turns 27 today, and I am damn sure he would have sung 100 songs before he turns 28. Happy Birthday, King. I love you a lot and owe you a lot.
