Here is the timeline of disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa and Sasikala.

JUNE 1996

June 1996

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint against Jayalalithaa accusing her of misusing the power to amass huge properties. The then DMK government registered a FIR against Jayalalithaa.

JUNE 1997

June 1997

Charge sheet filed in the Rs 66.65-crore disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran.

NOVEMBER 2003

November 2003

After DMK's appeal in the Supreme Court to transfer proceedings outside Tamil Nadu, the apex court ordered to move the trial to Karnataka.  

SEPTEMBER 2014

Special CBI Court Judge John Michael D’Cunha sentenced Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi to four years simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 100 crore for Jayalalithaa and, for others, a fine of Rs 10 crore each. All four were lodged in Bangalore's Parappana Agrahara central jail

After rejected by the Karnataka High Court, the Supreme Court granted bail to Jayalalithaa and the other three.

MAY 2015

May 2015

Karnataka High Court Judge Kumarasamy acquitted all four of all corruption charges saying the submissions were irrelevant to the case. Jayalalithaa returned to power as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

DECEMBER 2016

December 2016

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa died of a cardiac arrest. Jayalalithaa's close aide Sasikala became the general secretary of the AIADMK party.

FEBRUARY 2017

February 2017

Official sources of the Supreme Court announced that the verdict in disproportionate assets case against Sasikala would be delivered on February 14.
