Tamil Nadu has seen many Chief Ministers who served the state for a period. However, some leaders had a privilege of serving the state for a long period. Here is a list of five longest serving Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and former Madras State.

M BAKTHAVATSALAM

M Bakthavatsalam

M Bakthavatsalam, who served as a Chief Minister of former Madras State, is the fifth longest serving Chief Minister with 1,251 days in a single term in office. Notably, he is the last Congress Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu.

K KAMARAJ

K Kamaraj

K Kamaraj, fondly known as Kamarajar, is the fourth longest serving Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu when the state was formerly known as Madras State. The former President of Indian National Congress served 3,432 days in office for three terms as Chief Minister of the state.

M G RAMACHANDRAN

M G Ramachandran

M G Ramachandran, Founder of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, holds the third spot on the list with 3,624 days in office as Chief Minister. Known as MGR, he served three terms as Chief Minister.

J JAYALALITHAA

J Jayalalithaa

J Jayalalithaa, former General Secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, is the second longest serving Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 5,239 days in office. Jayalalithaa was elected as Chief Minister for the sixth time in 2016.

M KARUNANIDHI

M Karunanidhi

M Karunanidhi, President of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, takes the top spot as the longest serving Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu with 6,863 days in office. Karunanidhi served five terms as Chief Minister.
