The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Manchester Arena attack. The attack reportedly killed 22 people. But, this wasn't the first major attack by IS in the foreign soil. Here, let's look at the major terrorist attack by IS terrorists in 2017.

ISTANBUL NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING

The year 2017 started with a major terrorist attack. A lone gunman opened fire in a nightclub in Istanbul on Jan 1. According to reports, the attack left 39 dead and nearly 70 wounded. The shooter was later arrested.

KABUL SUPREME COURT BOMBING

Kabul Supreme Court Bombing

A lone suicide bomber killed 22 at the Supreme Court of Afghanistan in Kabul on February 7. The attack also injured more than 35 people.

SUFI SHRINE BOMBING IN PAKISTAN

Sufi Shrine bombing in Pakistan

The IS conducted a suicide bombing inside the Shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, Pakistan on February 17, 2017. Notably, the attack was coordinated with evening prayers. The reportedly killed 90 people and injured over 300.

WESTMINSTER PALACE ATTACK

Westminster Palace attack

A car-borne terrorist mowed down a group of people outside the Westminster Palace on March 22, 2017. The assailant also stabbed a police officer to death. The attack killed six and injured forty others.

PALM SUNDAY CHURCH BOMBINGS

Palm Sunday church bombings

ISIS conducted a twin suicide bombing at the churches in Egyptian cities Tanta and Alexandria on April 9, 2017. The attack was coordinated on the Christian spiritual day of Palm Sunday. The attack killed 41 and injured 136.

PARIS POLICE OFFICER SHOOTING

Paris police officer shooting

A lone gunman reportedly engaged in a shootout with the French police officers shot in Champs-Élysées, Paris on April 21. The incident killed one police officer and injured two others. The attacker was killed in the shootout.

MANCHESTER ARENA ATTACK

Manchester Arena attack

ISIS reportedly conducted a suicide bombing targeting concert goers at the Manchester Arena, England on 22 April Notably, pop singer Ariana Granda was performing at the concert. The attack left 22 dead and injured 59 others.

PHILIPPINES ATTACK

Philippines attack

The Maute group, sympathisers of IS, reportedly took control of the medical centre, burned schools and buildings and released prisoners in the city of Marawi, Philippines on April 23. Notably, this happened a day after ISIS claimed responsibility for the Manchester Arena attack.
