Director Ranjith has signed on Biju Menon to play the lead in his next, titled Leela: the Never Ending Play, which has been a long-pending project. Although actors like Mammootty, Anoop Menon and Shankar Ramakrishnan were initially considered for the role, the ace director has roped in the Vellimoonga actor for the film that is based on a short story and screenplay by scribe Unni R. Titled Leela: the Never Ending Play, the film deals with the story of Leela, an orphan girl who shares a unique relationship with Kuttiyappan, a mahout. Biju Menon will be essaying the role of Kuttiyappan while the female lead has not been announced yet, although the names of Anna Augustine and Karthika Nair had come up initially.
Ranjith's last few films Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty, Njan and Loham had done only average business at the box office, and this will be the first time that the director will not be writing his own script for his film. Biju Menon has taken a leap to the big leagues since the hit Vellimoonga last year, and his next film Salt Mango Tree is up for release.
Leela is expected to go on the floors by the end of the year.
