What is it about?
Simran was one of the most expected films of the year, and finally, the film hit screens today. Praful Patel or Simran (Kangana Ranaut) plays the lead in the film, and she is a divorcee settled in Georgia along with her parents. Kangana's father runs a shop and expects Kangana to assist him in his business. But, Kangana has different plans in life and thinks she is confident to stand on her own and doesn't want to rely on her father. Kangana works as a housekeeping girl in a hotel in Georgia, and her aim in life is to own a house and to have a dream life where she can afford for anything and everything. While accomplishing such aim, Kangana tries making money in quick time and faces the consequences.

What makes the film?
From the film's trailer, we could guess that Simran would be a woman-oriented film about a girl who wants to enjoy every moment of her life. Well, if you had guessed this, then to some extent you are right. Simran showcases Kangana who undergoes mental stress due to various social issues that happen around her. Firstly, her father (Hiten Kumar) plays a role of typical desi father, who expects Kangana to marry someone and begin her life once again. But, Kangana has no interest in second marriage as she is very ambitious and is determined to own property that is her only priority in life. Kangana in one of her trip to Vegas spends all her savings playing Casino and what happens next and how she gets trapped and does she finally own property? Is what makes the rest of the film's plot.

What didn't work?
Simran has twists and turns, but despite having that, the movie fails to engage the audiences. The plot of the film demands impactful scenes which unfortunately is very few, and secondly, a weaker screenplay makes Simran, an average film.

What worked?
Simran is an out and out watch out for the star Kangana! Kangana's cute expressions, her innocence, and her bold dialogues give life to the film. Kangana and Sohum Shah's screen presence and their relationship on-screen are very new to B-Town fans which are interesting. On the technical side, cinematographer Anuj Rakesh Dhawan's work is very evident, and his camera handling is appreciatable.

Well?
Simran has got the content of a feel good film, but like Kangana's earlier films which were high on social relevances, this one too gives us an impression of one such film, but the makers have failed to package the movie firmly with some strong content and engagement.

Verdict: Simran shines as a character, but the screenplay fails to engage.
