What is it about?
The movie is inspired by Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Half Girlfriend.' In the movie, Arjun Kapoor is named Madhav Jha and is from a royal family of a small village in Bihar who travels to Delhi to pursue his higher education. Madhav meets Riya (Shraddha Kapoor ) in his college. Riya comes from an upper-class family who is very modern and broad minded. Madhav falls in love with Riya while, Riya declines to be his girlfriend and says she can only be his half girlfriend and what happens next? Does Madhav get Riya in his life? All of this builds the movie's plot.
What makes up the film?
Madhav loves Riya, and his only dream is to spend the rest of his life with Riya. Half Girlfriend is a realistic love story, a lot of them can get connected to the movie's plot. Unlike other love stories where the next few scenes can be predicted, Half Girlfriend gives a bit of suspense, but is it exciting to all is a question? Arjun Kapoor's role is adorable with his English dialects that make the audiences go in splits. On the other hand, Shraddha Kapoor's role is equally impactful who acts mature while taking any decision.
What doesn't work?
Shraddha Kapoor's cliched excuses to stay away from Arjun Kapoor give the audience a feel of regular Indian drama. The movie's weak screenplay in the second half with some irrelevancies is another let down for the film. Towards the end, the director fails to impress, even with unexpected twists.
What worked?
Both Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor's acting are decent. Arjun Kapoor's unconditional love towards Riya makes the film a bit interesting. Emotions in the films have worked decently. Music and picturization of the song are good.
Well?
A few Chetan Bhagat fans might like Half Girlfriend. The film promises to give you unlimited romance but inconsistent. And if you are a fan of the book, then the movie will slightly work better.
