Nitya Mehra, after having worked in films like Life Of Pi as the AD has made her debut as a director with Baar Baar Dekho having Siddharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif in the lead. The film’s promotional videos teased an overload of glitz factor and we decided to don our Kala Chashma while we set out to watch it. So how did it go you ask? Read on.

What is it about?
What if your life fast forwards to the main highlights of it, only for you to find out you mess up in the end? Wouldn’t you wish for a rewind button? Because that’s when you'd wish you learned life’s lesson’s earlier! But luckily or unluckily for Sid, who not so surprisingly (considering the director’s previous Life Of Pi experience),  plays the role of a Maths professor and is hesitant just a day before his marriage to Katrina. That is exactly what happens - his life fast forwards! What happens to him in the future? Will he be able to get back to the present? Why is it happening to him? And more importantly, does he get married at the end? This is all that BBD deals with.

What makes up the film?
Baar Baar Dekho is completely a director’s film, which seems to showcase her take on life and love. With due credits, she makes use of an interesting plot ploy to pin her point. It isn’t exactly a philosophical drama, nor is it sophisticated science fiction. It is merely a ‘what if this were to happen’ knot tied into a solid script. The chemistry between Siddharth and Katrina has been made good use of to make it a love story that spills out cues for realization. Imagination can be seen at play, with scenes depicting what 2034 might look like.

What works?
The relatability factor. Since the film talks about life in general, it seems to be able to strike a note with everyone irrespective of age or gender differences. The creative plot devised to drive home a point that is relatable to everyone is what makes the film tick. Romance is sensible and solid in the script with the chemistry of Sid and Katrina adding to it. Both have given one of their best performances and it could be confirmed in the theater with the lads shouting their hearts out for Katrina while the ladies ‘aww’ed for Siddharth. Songs are a big plus, and when you find out that its already the end of first half and Kaala Chashma has still not come up, you know the best is yet to come!

What doesn’t work?
The engagement slips suddenly at points and falls like a child learning to walk. But it gets up again and strides straight making up for it immediately. There is a point where the script moves to the future, then farther into it, then gets back a little to the past, then goes back, then...well, as said earlier, maybe something could’ve been done about that.

Well?
Overall, Baar Baar Dekho is a fun filled and easily relatable travel filled with a reinstatement of the fact that it's the little things that matter both in life and love which deserves your warm hearty watch.

Verdict: Baar Baar Dekho is a film that might just make you do what the title says!
