War for the Planet of the Apes is the third installment in the Apes reboot series. The film is written and directed by Matt Reeves and with Mark Bomback assisting on the writing front.

I haven’t seen Rise and Dawn, can I watch the third edition? If that’s your question, maybe you could, but the satisfactory levels would be different. You may not know about the depth in the characters; the Caeser (the main lead) we have seen him go from innocent child to a heartless warrior, to seek revenge.

Having said that even those who missed Rise and Dawn would have no trouble in quickly connecting with the script, mainly due to the splendid making and the emotions that travel throughout.

Caesar and his apes are betrayed by barbarous Colonel which leads into a conflict with an army of humans and the Apes. Caesar goes on a quest to avenge his kind, but that is not going to be easy. The baddie is menacing, and he has a different plan. That battle between good and evil is captured so brilliantly. It was also done in a matured manner. It has more emotions than action, but the screenplay never dips for one bit.

The major strength is the emotions, and for that, you need some great acting. There is no question that Andy Serkis as Caesar gives the most expressive and deeply felt performance as an Ape on the big screen.

Not just him, but the other main leads are apt, and the result is undeniably stunning. You don’t see them as actors in monkey suits roaming here and there. They look like a real Ape, by 'they' we mean all of them.

The dialogues are limited like earlier parts. Most Apes communicate through a graceful, shorthand sign language that is neatly translated with subtitles. The sound design, visuals, and VFX comprehend the storyline adequately. This could end up being one of the best trilogies made on Apes.

Verdict: An emotionally enterprising journey concludes in style!
