Ordinary people have a day off in their routine lives, but a superhero is always on call, as danger is just a frequent visitor in their lives. Spiderman: far from home works as a superhero film and also operates in the coming of age genre, where a teen Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) comes to terms with the fact that 'with great, comes great responsibility'.

The story revolves around Peter Parker/ Spiderman, who decides to take a little break from his superhero duties and decides to go on a school trip to Europe along with classmates (which includes Peter's crush, the wise-talking Mary Jane). But a major threat follows him as the Elementals, a group of giant creatures  from another dimension of Earth ,which takes shape in the form of natural elements, spells destruction. But this time around, Peter gets a helping hand in the form of Mysterio, a new superhero entrant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who wows to exact revenge on the Elementals for destroying his family.

Peter Parker has some greater shoes to fill as the world is looming from the void left by Avengers, and Iron Man has left Peter with a parting present that holds key to many a superpower. The initial portions involves a lot of generic MCU moments like huge action set pieces that are infused with a dose of humour. One might feel like the supervillains have no motive in the film.

But wait until the film pulls the rug with a solid twist. Here on, the presence of threat becomes more stronger and the film becomes more engaging. Peter is pushed to confront his inner demons of self doubt and the antagonist plays some mind games with Spiderman. We see him becoming more vulnerable and eventually rise above them. Peter/Spiderman's fears are summed up by a trippy action sequence that plays out like an entangled web of illusions, similar to the one in Doctor Strange.

The film gives a lot of throwback moments to the fallen superheroes, especially Iron Man, which comes across as pleasant surprises. The villain's backstory could have been deepened a bit. The film's action sequences look familiar and offers nothing new. But what makes the film more watchable is Peter's journey and the struggle to accept the challenge that is thrusted upon him.

Tom Holland pulls a convincing act as Peter Parker, a bored teenager who is torn between the burden of superpower and a yearning for normal life and love. Zendaya shines as the sharp-witted Mary Jane. The action sequences towards the climax are top notch, though the mass destruction shown in those scenes does not heighten the tension. The appearances of MCU regulars make a great presence throughout. Overall, Spiderman: Far From Home is a passable popcorn entertainer with a lot of lighter moments

Verdict: Few good surprising moments in 'Spiderman: Far from home' makes it a worthy watch.
