Rogue One : A Star wars story is a film directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen and others. It is another installment in the Star Wars series. The film is about a girl in search of her father (Galen Erso) who she missed 15 years ago in a tiff between him and a powerful Lord from the galaxy. It centres around Felicity Jones’ character and her mission to save the galaxy from the making of the Deathstar.

The rebellion has to fight and stop the Lord from making the deadly weapon (Deathstar), which has the potential to destroy the entire galaxy. Will she find her father? Will she destroy the hologram of the Deathstar? These answers lie in this space based, Star Wars film.

The film filled with numerous action sequences and shoot outs could have been more intense to grip the viewer to the screen. The dosage of humour in the first half is adequate to tickle your funny bone and credits have to be given to the character design of the Imperial droid. This droid is comic relief from all the action packed scenes and is very hilarious with it’s robotic one liners.

Performances of the ensemble cast are decent and special mention to the pilot Bodhi played by Riz Ahmed. The film has it’s timely twists and turns but the second half is a tad bit draggy and it makes you wait for the events that are to happen.

The cinematography and edit of the film are the major positives as it has been handled well by the technicians to provide a good visual experience set in space. The Jedha destruction scene was well choreographed and stands out from the rest of the film. Music is another plus to the film and it is in accordance with the theme. Brownie points for the experimentation quotient should surely be given as the team has added a new idea.

Overall, Rogue one, could be the film that excites a Star Wars fanboy but predominantly not a very fulfilling ride into space for those who have no knowledge about the Star Wars franchise.. However, it’s visual brilliance, timely twists and the humour track in bits and pieces is what works for one and all.

Verdict: An exciting one for the Star Wars fans, but not the most fulfilling ride into space.
