Vairamuthu wins his 7th National Award for Best Lyricist and a statement (translated) from him on this happy occasion is as follows:

“I am happy to be receiving an award from the President of India for Best Lyricist for the 7th time. Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country and my contemporary society is delighted about the 1st position of film music it holds in the language. It is a moment of pride for the language and not for me. I am just a tool.

In Seenu Ramasamy’s Dharmadurai, the song that I wrote, Endha Pakkam, is intended for motivating someone who was contemplating suicide. Through my lines, I had conveyed that failures are just the doors for the next step in life. This is what the heroine is reiterating to the hero through my lines.

This award adds up my responsibility further more. I seek Tamil people’s wishes as my boon to continue my journey with new responsibilities”
